New Reference Target Accessory
Senix Corporation, manufacturer of ToughSonic® ultrasonic level and distance sensors, today announced the introduction of its new ToughSonic Reference Target Temperature Compensation accessory. This new accessory uses an external reference target, located in the measurement path at the front of the sensor, to reduce fluctuations caused by diurnal shifts. Combined with the latest SenixVIEW software, for each measurement the sensor makes two readings; one to locate the reference target, and one to the distant object. Any change in the speed of sound affects both measurements.
The reference target location is locked during calibration, and any change in its apparent position is applied proportionally to correct the distant object’s apparent location. The result is a more accurate measurement, significantly less affected by ambient air temperature, diurnal temperature swings, sensor self-heating, sunshine warming the sensor, cold ambient temperatures or vibration. Field calibrations can be done at any time or temperature.
- Not reliant on internal temperature sensing or separate temperature input
- Improves Level and distance measurements by compensating for diurnal air temperature swings
- Sensor is less affected by heating (by sunshine, or external heat source)
- Can be calibrated in the field at any temperature
- Available for 1″ NPT or 30mm sensors, including the Senix ToughSonic 3, 12 & 14
- Easy Setup and Use
The Reference Target Temperature Compensation accessory is mounted on a 2″ universal threaded Delrin adaptor. The Reference Target features are enabled using free SenixVIEW software. Reference Target Compensation accessories are available for Senix sensors that use either a 1″ NPT or 30mm threaded housing (Senix ToughSonic 3, 12, and 14).

Philippines flood warning system expands
Ultrasonic Sensors Monitor Coastal, River and Urban Flooding
HINESBURG, VT – October 20, 2015 – Senix Corporation today announced the expansion of the Philippines Flood Warning System, which relies on Senix’s ultrasonic level and distance sensors to monitor coastal, river and urban flooding. Senix water level sensors play a key role in monitoring the risks associated with tropical rains, storm surges and tsunamis which make the archipelago among the most flood prone in the world. To manage these risks the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and other government agencies are expanding the world’s largest and most sophisticated flood warning system.
Tide gauge platforms with ultrasonic water level sensors and other wet and dry sensors monitor hundreds of miles of coastline for signs of Tsunami and tropical storm surges. All 258 of the nation’s rivers are monitored by similar water level sensing platforms. Even flood-prone city streets are being outfitted with urban flood monitoring stations equipped with ultrasonic sensors. All remote sensor platforms are integrated with centralized flood information systems in near real-time, with the goal of providing at-risk communities with flood warnings at least six hours in advance.
“We started working with researchers at the Philippine Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) about seven years ago as they began developing this technology.” said Doug Boehm, Senix founder and Chief Technology Officer. “The Philippine Government has been a global leader in developing remote flood management systems. We’ve worked closely with our Philippine distributor, Clean World Trading and Supplies, and the Philippine government to customize our sensors and meet their unique remote water level sensing requirements.”
In expanding the flood warning system, the Philippine government placed its fourth major order for ToughSonic ultrasonic water level sensors. With this order, the total number of ToughSonic sensors deployed will exceed 1,000.
