Water Monitoring & Flood Detection

Senix ToughSonic® ultrasonic sensors are a reliable, cost-effective solution for indoor and outdoor water monitoring.

From harsh, salty ocean environments to freshwater applications, ToughSonics deliver smart calculations. ToughSonics perform best in open-air applications or within “stilling” tubes that focus the ultrasonic technology to avoid obstacles and improve performance.

THOUSANDS of Senix ToughSonic sensors are installed in water projects across the globe. Utilize them over rivers, lakes, coasts, and roadways for open flow monitoring, in agriculture irrigation systems, and for flood detection & tsunami warning systems.

Senix ultrasonic sensors and radars measure water levels for irrigation and monitor rising levels in free-flowing water channels

Sensors for Efficient Water Measurements

Senix ultrasonic and radar level sensors are utilized in water monitoring applications and water projects throughout the world.

From farm irrigation and open channels to manure pits and wastewater treatment plants, operators rely on real-time, continuous level measurements to ensure flow, optimize water use during processing, and deliver automated alerts when water levels rise.

Install a ToughSonic® sensor above ponds, lakes, rivers, and roadways to detect floods through water level changes. Use sensors on coastlines for actionable tide and wave measurements, allowing early detection of tsunami conditions and consequent flood mitigation.

Common Industries & Applications

ToughSonic ultrasonic and non-contact radar sensors can be utilized anywhere precise water or liquid level monitoring is required.

Non-Contact Ultrasonics for Environmental Applications

Senix ultrasonic transmitters are a cost-efficient tool for water level monitoring in indoor tanks, outdoor reservoirs, and environmental flood monitoring applications.

  • Designed for outdoor durability; rated IP68, NEMA-4X, and NEMA-6X against water and dust ingress
  • Monitor water levels in ranges up to 50 ft. for environmental and operational visibility
  • Enable flood detection and early warning systems with real-time level data
  • Optimize irrigation and water distribution by integrating with pumps, gates, and SCADA systems
  • Easily install, configure, and adjust ToughSonic sensors via SensorView™ software
  • Automate water/waste processes in the wastewater treatment, livestock production, and manufacturing industries with reliable, non-contact sensing

Smarter, Tougher Water Level Monitoring

Senix sensors are used worldwide by municipalities, irrigation districts, water providers and associations, and backyard enthusiasts.

Historically, farm water was controlled manually. But there’s a better way.

ToughSonic sensors are used to measure water levels at channels, canals, and gates to control the distribution of irrigation water.

Sensors connect to SCADA and telemetry systems to control the flow. Or connect ultrasonics directly to a pump and let the sensor throttle the flow of water based on its level readings.

Free-flowing water channels often require monitoring to ensure it is not approaching dangerous levels.

ToughSonics provide an accurate glimpse with trusted non-contact technology. This flow data is insightful to prepare for—or even prevent—major events, like floods.

Senix ToughSonic sensors can measure stream and water levels when mounted on bridges, poles, and other structures to look down on the flow from above.

Take it from the Iowa Flood Center (IFC). In 2009, it was formed to help Iowans understand flood risks and make smart decisions.

Since 2010, over 200 ToughSonic-100.50 sensors have been put to use to calculate flood risks for the Iowa Flood Information System (IFIS).

Radar Sensors in Environmental Applications

Compact non-contact radar level sensors are another ideal choice for continuous measurements of water tanks and liquid inventory, especially where very high accuracy is required.

CNCR-100, CNCR-200, and CNCR-300 radars are utilized in many applications, including at treatment plants, lift stations, and in flood-prone areas.

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) plastic housings are heat, chemicals, abrasion, flames, and weather resistant
  • Automate pumps and gates, or set high levels that trigger automated warning system alerts
  • Support remote flood monitoring deployments with wireless, battery-powered CNCR-300 radar sensors
  • Reliable 80 GHz radar technology remains accurate in rain, fog, condensation, debris, and turbulent conditions
