Better steel, better ultrasonic sensors
ToughSonic ultrasonic sensors are made from the highest grade, 316 stainless steel – also known as “marine grade” or “surgical” steel. It’s the same steel used to make quality marine hardware and hospital operating room instruments.
Our line of ToughSonic sensors have been housed in stainless steel since their introduction in 2002; that’s part of what made them so “tough”. Our early housings were Type 301 or Type 304 stainless steel – high quality, but not tough enough for the most demanding applications. In 2013 we upgraded our sensor housings to Type 316 stainless steel. Now they’re even tougher in corrosive, acidic, caustic, and marine environments.
Thousands of Senix ultrasonic sensors are permanently installed in harsh coastal marine environments, monitoring water levels for Tsunami warning systems along thousands of miles of Pacific coastline. They are even used on America’s Cup racing yachts.
Toughsonic distance measurement sensors also withstand the harsh sulfite liquors and sulfurous acids found in pulp and paper mills.
